In today's business landscape, people-centric organizations win. Companies are realizing that taking care of their people is of utmost importance, and a foundational element of taking care of people is making sure they don't get hurt or sick from their work.

According to the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), Industrial Hygienists are scientists and engineers committed to protecting the health and safety of people in the workplace and in the community. The Industrial Hygienist is part of a broader family of professionals often referred to collectively as the practice of occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS).

A CIH credential involves an advanced science degree, at least 4 years of appropriate experience, professional reference letters, a full day exam (with pass rates as low as 40%), and ongoing continuing education requirements to stay current in the field. It also involves an ethical code of conduct and ongoing ethical training requirements.

Why do all these requirements matter?

At the end of the day, you want to be able to trust that you are partnering with someone who has experience with the regulatory landscape, has the technical knowledge to assist with your challenges, and will make the right recommendations for your company and your people in the long term.
